Can it be that Julianne is really already 5 months old!?!

To date, she is still exclusively nursing and doing wonderful! Our pediatrician encouraged me to continue breastfeeding and begin to introduce solids once Julianne was wanting to eat every 2 hours instead of every 3 to 4. She did tell us that if she was not eating solids at her 6 month check-up that we would need to go ahead and start them to get Julianne used to eating from a spoon.

All of that being said...does anyone have any strong feelings about the rice cereal with added DHA in comparison to the regular rice cereal? Even with the addition of solids, I am going to continue nursing.

Thanks for any input! I still can't believe 5 months have gone by...I just thought I would "show off" my girl!

Have a great end of the week!

Kimberly

I use the cereal with the added DHA and I also take DHA since I am nursing. I have read a lot about omegas and what they do and felt that I just wanted to give Elias as much as possible.

Hi,

I like the DHA too. All the studies show that it helps with visual acuity.

The other thing I do is. Instead of trying to have breastmilk thawed to add to the cereal. I buy a can of DHA powdered formula and use that in the DHA cereal. I figure it won't hurt to give him as much as possible.

Hey what a cute baby! Good job mom! You know, they add all this to formula as they are trying to sort apart breastmilk piece by piece, they noticed a DHA and ARA like complexes in breast milk and decided to give it to formula babies! Your breast milk has all it needs for her, she will love the addition of solids and it may free you up a little between feedings! You are doing great!

Thanks to everyone! :-) I am loving every moment of being a mom to this beautiful baby girl! :-)

KristyS - I had not thought about using formula instead of breastmilk to mix the cereal - - did Elias have any trouble transitioning to the taste? Also - I noticed on the side of one of the free cans we received before she was born that is says to use an opened can within a month. Do you use it up by then - - that stuff is EXPENSIVE and I don't want to be wasteful!

Okay - - so I will stock up on the rice cereal with added DHA - I guess you really can't have too much of a good thing!!! :-)

I hope all of you have a fabulous weekend - the weather here is supposed to be amazing - - we are looking forward to it!

You should pitch the can after it's been opened for a month for sure. I didn't do it one time...went rancid!

Have a great weekend! I'll be thinking of you all while I continue to write yet another paper!

I use the carnation good start becuase it's cheaper and I try to get the formula coupons for it (you can sign up online). I now use about a can a month. He eats cereal 2 times a day. I have let it go a little over a month before and it was fine. We had no problems transitioning at all. He has done great and I feel like i am giving him some added benefits this way.
