psychiatrist & pediatrician for my son. Unfortunately where I live medical care is really horrible. Dr's just don't test kids for much, they just wanna automatically put a label on them,and thats that. And if the parent tries to explain to them what they are seeing or what we fear, then they just think we are over paranoid and maybe I am, but after all aren't we suppose to be as parents. I like the saying better to be safe then SORRY. Anyway, I'm looking to drive 2 hours away just to find my son better medical care. Just hoping to find someone who will take ins.

YOu sound so frustrated and let down. I grew up in a small town where we had a choice of two doctors: one who was a good surgeon but sucked at basic medical care, and one who was great at treating the commom cold and doing annual pap smears. Anything else...we had to go elsewhere.

We used to travel 3 hours, in one direction, when I was a teen to get good orthopedic care for me. It was worth it. I hope that's what you find, too.!

Thanks. I'm trying because my kids deserve good medical care. Not someone who just wants the $$$ and doesn't really care if they diagnose right or wrong. I will never forget when my oldest son was 3 and he broke out in a rash all over his body. We took him to his ped and they made us come in the back door and told me that my son had a staph infection. Then it got worse and we took him to the e.r. and they told us he had chicken pox. it looked nothing like chicken pox. took him to pa at his ped and they told us he had some skin disease. still no success in treating it. so i take him to my family dr and he takes one look at him and says he has what use to be called scarlet fever. within a few days he was feeling better, and the rash was going away.

but with my other son having so many issues go on, i feel he needs more then just average care. i'm on a mission and i wont stop till i find what he deserves :). Glad to know I'm not the only one that feels traveling a distance is a better option then settling for less then average care.

Yep! I hear ya! This board is a great resource as well.

If you find yourself in a position with ugly looking skin...you can take a picture and upload it here...and Dr. B will look at it as best as he can.

have you tried doing a google search? Or contact your insurance company for a list of in network providers that meet your needs.
Your insurance company must have an in network provider within a certain mile radius of your home (varies with each insurance company) otherwise they are responsible to either reimburse you mileage to drive to an in network provider OR allow you to see an out of network provider at in network benefits. If you need further assistance you can contact your state Dept of Insurance or contact your HR director they are the ones who negotiated the policy with the insurance company in the first place.
