I had my tubal (with clips) on the 3rd and I am still having difficulty, I am bruised from the belly button down, I had heard that it was a simple procedure also, and now I am having a hard time, very sore and tender. I would really question the dr. about what to expect after the surgery and what it normal and what isnt.

I had my tubes tied jan 23, 2004 (3 days after my son was born)(i am 25 w/a 8 and 2 month old) and I was up and around w/in 3 days...there was quite a bit of discomfort the first day (body aches and cramps) but nothing compared to giving birth. I also had my gallbladder out and the gas made things a little uncomfortable, but nothing too bad. Im glad i got it done!!!

I just had my second tubal. Yes, second. My doctor missed one of my tubes, the first time. Fortunately, we found out immediately and went through some testing to confirm this. I had a large amount of pain the first time. We think that a ligament was cut instead of the tube. The second time was a breeze. The only discomfort I experienced was from the gas.

Yes - I know someone who got pregnant after a tubal. They say the success rate on tubals is 97%. My doc says he's never had anyone get pregnant after one of his because he's very "thorough", whatever that means. I hope he's right because he just did mine a couple months ago!

I think some of the women with paina dn recovery complaints are having the old traditional tubal verus the endoscopic newer version . I know many women who have gotten preg, with having the clips put on.

With the clips...

When you are pregnant, the fallopian tubes swell. If you have the tubes only tied off with the clips within the first 5 or 6 months postpartum, the chances of becoming pregant are much greater than if you wait until after that 6 mo mark. It can take 6 mo for the swelling of the the fallopian tubes to go down..and...if the clips aren't tight enough...plus the swelling goes down...you end up with a passage way for pregnancy again.

I know a number of women that had their "tubes tied" immediately following c-section or child birth and still got pregnant. Using the clips only is a good way to do it if you aren't 100% sure...or if you think there is any chance you might change your mind years down the road. But ultimately, if this is the only procedure that is being used, it's best to wait that 6 mo or so.

Cheers

Post tubal ligation syndrome (PTLS) is a term used to describe a variety of symptoms that may occur after a tubal ligation (TL). These include increased menstrual bleeding and cramps as well as other symptoms attributed to changes in hormone levels. One possible mechanism suggested as a cause of these symptoms is disruption of the normal blood between the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and uterus.

Whether or not post tubal syndrome is a real entity has been a subject of controversy in the medical literature for decades. Numerous studies have reported conflicting conclusions about whether these symptoms are more common among women who have had a tubal ligation than among women who have not had a tubal ligation.

Here is what some women who have sent us testimonials after their tubal reversal have said about post tubal ligation syndrome:

For what it is worth... my two cents. I had my tubal last June with my c/s for baby #4. I am overweight (more than 100#) and I am breastfeeding. The pain was "included free" with the c/section and I haven't had a period yet, but I worked for my ob/gyn and never ever heard of any of the complaints that I'm hearing here...not that they aren't valid, I think just not overly common... hth...
