Hi - I haven't had it done yet (I've scheduled it twice and changed my mind twice)so I'm interested in the feedback too. My doctor is starting to roll his eyes when I tell him I'm ready to get it done....

Okay so this is just an old school funny story!!

My mother had her tubes tied. I was about six years old.
When I was eighteen she had to have a complete hysterectimy *sp?* and they took the WHOLE SHABANG OUT .
After the surgery they informed my mother that she was lucky to have had me. When she asked why, they informed her she had only ONE fallopian tube. One.
And when they did the tubiligation, noone took the time to mention this to her.

We kid around with her that she is owed some money back on that surgery because they charged her for two.
Crazy huh? All that time she only had one.

I did have my tubes tied. I found it to be a very simple procdures, with very lil' recovery time. No real pain aor anything signifacant.. Just a little sore ( minor) a day or two.

Okay, this caught my eye because I also would like to go through with this procedure... I was told that I couldn't lift/carry my baby afterwards and so I've been putting it off. They said it was a 6 week recovery????? We definitely don't want to have another baby. Ours are 1 year and 2 weeks apart. We are way too busy for number three! HOw long is the recovery? Can you get back to normal work, kids, etc. in a few days or weeks?? Thanks, I appreciate the insight also~

I went back to normal daily rountine within 5 days. And this was 5 weeks after my c-section. There were no bigger restrictions than after giving birth.
I suggest talk to your doctor.
But really ladies there was nothing to it.
The pain was comparable to menstrual cramps and relly were virtually gone by the second day . ANd keep this is mind as well. They are rountinely done after giving birth. Usually the next day while you are still in the hospital. Therefore they know you will be up and about caring for a child.

Just one little tidbit you should consider...

The fallopian tubes are swelled during pregnancy and following birth for about 4 to 5 months. When they tie them off, they have the potential to shrink a bit, causing the opening of the fallopian tube to be bigger than expected. So...you still risk pregnancy. It DOES depend on the person, but I can tell you this...I know two people who got preggers following tubal ligation immediately after birth...and they BOTH had twins!

Our obstetrician advised us to wait 6 or 7 months post partum. But...my husband went instead!

TTFN off to work

I ve heard of what Kat said, but in my paticular sitiuation , they cut and burned them and then tied them off. That is the way it is routinely done in our area.

I feel rather akward responding to this because I am only 23 with one child. But I do know this much through other women. One of my coworkers (34) wanted her tubes "tied". Her dr. told her that she was too young and didn't see any reason for her to have the procedure done. The way this dr. does it cannot be reversed. But, on the other hand, my supervisor had a "high risk" pregnancy and her dr. recommends that she has her tubes "tied".

I am a mother of two, I had my tubes tied after when I was 24. I recovered in only one day. I went back to work with no problems. It's quick and easy.
