Whoops that was short...I got rudely interupted LOL!
Anywho...IMO it is safer to vaccinate againest diseases "WE KNOW FOR A FACT" are out there and take the lifes of many people! Research Polio for one...I agree with Dr. B there is a coincidence in the timing of the shots and the onset of certain disorders and the numbers of times it happens is really TINY! Now thats not to say that some kids don't have adverse allergic reactions to the vaccines at times and THOSE kiddo's should be watched closely for allergy in general.
I am so sorry about your nephew and can only imagine how hard this has been on your family...I will say a prayer for everyone involved!!!

i'm not sure i totally agree with that statement. http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/sepp/2004/02/17/cdc_knew_mercury_in_vaccines_induces_autism.htm

if you do a search and do some reading you will find it happens in more children then you know. I didn't believe it either when my sil first told me. Until I started doing my own search, and let me tell you there are more children out there that have ended up with autism after getting the said vaccines. I even found one from a mother who is a nurse and her son was vaccinated and this ended up happening to him because he was actually receiving over 50x's the recommended dosage of the thimersol.

anyway, i still vaccinate my kids as i feel i've been very fortunate, but its a shame not every child is that lucky. And until there is more research i dont't hink anyone can say for certain that is does or doesn't cause autism. jmo.

You will see some "stuff" on the internet that may lead you to believe that vaccinations can cause autism but there are absolutely no valid studies that point in this direction. This has been researched and researched for many, many years and never has been able to been proven with any validity.

Hi,

I agree. There is not one well done, well controlled study that shows that the vaccines cause autism. Also, mercury has never been indicated as a cause of autism. That was the MMR vaccine, and that was proven untrue. I think people are combining the vaccines and unproven side effects into one big lump. I keep up very closely with the research on this. If anyone can show me one double blinded, placebo controlled study that shows harm, I would be interested to see it. All I can find is someone got a vaccine, and then some time after that autism was diagnosed. Then by some stretch one is blamed for the other. Just because one thing happens after another doesn't mean that one causes the other. We turn the car seat forward at one year of age and then at 12-15 months a child will be diagnosed with autism. If I were to write a study showing that all autistic children had their car seat turned forward at one year of age and post it on the internet, would I cause a big controversy? You have to look at how there studies were done.

I totally agree with you but at the same time, my sister in law has done serious research on autism and causes etc. This is her site if anyone would like to check it out. http://autismawareness.bravehost.com/index.html

Sorry...

I looked at that website...there is nothing concrete there.

One of the BIGGEST things is that autism is BETTER DIAGNOSED at a much earlier age compared to the 1970s.

When children were developmentally delayed at the turn of the century and into the 1960s, most children were labelled as mentally handicapped and placed into institutions. No one really knew what to do with these children and few valued them as human beings. Thus, research and really finding out the differences between things like down's syndrome and autism weren't important to us as a society...American, Canadian, European or otherwise.

Further more, the second world war brought the extermination of people with disabilites in a lot of European countries that were invaded by Nazi Germany. Thus...the face of people with disabilities in European history CHANGED. Not only that, but when a CONTINENT is trying to rebuild its food sources, structures, economy and health systems for its general public, the funding and the focus just couldn't be placed on things like intellectual disabilities.

So...you have to look at the research and the histories that are kept in order to make a good judgement on this.

AHHHH!!! Gosh, Doc...we haven't had a vaccine topic like this here in a while! It's REALLY great to have threads like this!

Everyone has valid points. I think if I had an autistic child, I would research everything in my child's medical history in an attempt to find out how it was triggered. I also had a hard time with this last vaccination because Tyler complained that her leg hurt. She was also lethargic. Tyler usually has side effects after a shot but it was different this time. A little person (not a baby) was telling me her leg hurt and she wanted to go to the leg doctor (lol). Hey Doc, I found out yesterday I have a degenerative disc (doesn't everybody?). I won't be running any marathons for awhile. Hope you recuperated from Boston.

Hi,

I recuperated after a month off. I think it is very unfair that you can work out for a year and be in great shape, and then take off one month and get completely out of shape and gain 10 pounds. I should get a 2 month grace period just for doing a marathon. Will you take up swimming now that have a disk problem?

I have a question regarding this. Are there any children that are autistic that have never been immunized?
